Unfinished business. For many of us that's the case at some point in our ultra cycling endeavors. It could have stayed that way for ultra cycling veteran, Dex Tooke, who made it 99% of the way in the Race Across America in 2010 but had to make the difficult decision of DNF'ing just shy of the glorious finish line in Annapolis, Maryland. In his words, there are a thousand reasons to give up and not keep going, but you have to find that one reason to push on. And so in 2011, Dex came back strong with a successful RAAM crossing and has since crewed for countless other solo racers.

In addition to RAAM, Dex set two cross state records in Texas, competed in the Tejas 500, and founded the well-known No Country for Old Men ultra event in Texas. Dex was a smoker in his younger years and also an ultra runner and has a wealth of experience and wisdom to share with all of us, as well as in his book aptly titled Unfinished Business.

Let's roll! 🚲💨

Episode Transcript

I've been an ultra-endurance athlete since 2011. Since then I've bicycled 3,000 miles across the USA to fight human trafficking, participated in the Race Across America (RAAM), ridden twice non-stop from San Jose to Los Angeles (450 miles) and once out-and-back (900 miles), and completed over 50 double centuries, earning me the title of youngest ultra cyclist ever to be inducted into the California Triple Crown Hall of Fame.
